Kingmaker: The App – Update 1

November 12, 2014

kingdom-manager-generate-item-screenkingdom-manager-settingsThere is a new version of the Kingdom Manager program available. If you already have a link, you can use that to download and install the new version. If you don’t have a link, you can send me a message from the Contact page and I will give you one.

New Features

  • Random magic items. Users can now generate random items for your buildings that have magic item slots. The randomness can be narrowed by selecting a particular kind of item to generate (e.g. a Minor item, or a Minor Weapon) before clicking the button. The item is generated using the tables from the PF core rulebook and Ultimate Equipment, although I had to fill in some blanks here and there.**
** Unfortunately, this change has invalidated pre-existing magic item buildings. I recommend noting the details of each such building (name, build option, items present if any), right-clicking on the building, selecting Remove -> Refund, and then creating the building anew. The new version of the building should work perfectly. And I don’t anticipate any future changes requiring users to rebuild like this change does.
  • Vacancy penalties. Somehow this got left out of the initial release. But now if a leadership position is vacant, all of the vacancy penalties for the position are correctly assessed against the kingdom.
  • Campaign settings. In the Campaign menu, DMs can now change some settings for the campaign. Currently only the population values (population per district plot, for example) can be altered.
  • The map window has been changed to allow the user to save the map without defining the terrain for every single hex. Note that an incomplete map cannot be added to a kingdom. The program will also tell the user which hexes still need to be defined before the map is considered “complete” if the user tries to save an incomplete map. [thanks to Thomas Harvey (tlhgeek) for the suggestion]
  • It is now possible to delete characters from the character roster. To do so, select the character in the roster window and press the Delete key. [thanks to Thomas Harvey (tlhgeek) for the suggestion]

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed a bug where placing a fort or watchtower caused an error.
  • Fixed a bug where one couldn’t drag and drop a new district into a settlement.
  • Fixed a bug where viewing the character roster after leaders had been assigned, but before any hexes had been claimed, caused an error.
  • Fixed a bug where fisheries would appear in the top left corner of the map.
  • Fixed a bug where Rulers were not able to add their bonus to multiple Kingdom stats for larger kingdoms.
  • Put informative messages in place when extremely large map images cause the program to run out of memory. For best results, you should try to keep your map images under 3-4 MB. You can add multiple maps to the kingdom, so you can always break up a large map into smaller pieces and add the map that way.

Plans and Pipe Dreams

  • I want to be able to remove settlements and maps from the kingdom.
  • I want to be able to drag buildings and terrain features around. This will allow the user to correct placement mistakes without having to refund/delete the building or feature and re-build it.
  • I still need to add Diplomatic and Trade edicts.
  • An undo function.
  • A map zoom feature.
  • The ability to execute complete kingdom turns within the application.

This will be a GREAT resource for pathfinder in general once it’s done! A GM could whip up a kingdom pretty easily in a jiffy

    • I think it’s already a great resource, but I am biased. 🙂 TBH, the kingdom rules don’t mesh that well with the general settlement rules, but if a DM wanted to build a kingdom and all of its towns from scratch, this program would definitely make it an easier task.
