Kingmaker: The App – Update 19

June 7, 2020

That’s right, updates to the Kingdom Manager continue to take place, even as the campaign clock ticks towards midnight! This update adds an important user interface improvement and a new feature that’s handy for random events.

As always, you can visit the application’s page to download the setup file. After installation, if you click on Help -> About, the version # should be 1.1.5.0.

Features

  • The important UI improvement is that upgrading roads to highways and watchtowers to forts on the hex map is no longer a humongous pain in the butt. It used to be that if you wanted to upgrade a road in hex S-4, you had to search through the list of upgrades (which included all of your hexes with roads and not highways) for the one for that particular hex, and then drag it over to that particular hex. No more! Now there are generic “highway” and “fort” upgrades that can be dragged to any hex containing a road or watchtower, in order to upgrade that feature. This isn’t just easier when it comes to upgrading those items, it also gets rid of the massive list of roads and towers that could be upgraded for larger kingdoms, which would push the list of features that you actually wanted to add to the map down off-screen. This makes managing a kingdom with the application so much easier, and I am embarrassed that it’s taken me this long to rectify the issue.
  • The new feature is a random hex selector, found at Turn menu -> Random -> Hex. It allows you to specify a number of criteria – inside or outside the kingdom, border hexes, terrain types, hex improvements, settlements, etc. – for the search. Then you can click the “Get Random Hex” button. There’s also a “Select Hex” button so that you can easily find the hex that was randomly picked. I built this tool for the blooms in Sound of a Thousand Screams, as they are supposed to begin in random hexes with certain terrain types or features. But it could be used for any other instance where the DM needs to select a random location, or settlement, or army.

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed an issue where right-clicking near the bottom of the map showed the wrong items in the pop-up menu.
  • Fixed a display issue with the number of buildings that can be built per turn when the kingdom is over 200 hexes large.
  • Fixed an issue with the Squatters event with settlements that have no empty plots.
